Tomorrow, Thursday 24th of April is the first anniversary of the disaster at Rana Plaza and the Comhlámh Trade Justice group as part of the Clean Clothes campaign are taking action to mark this anniversary.

According to the Bangladesh government, more than 1,100 people died and about 2,500 were rescued from the disaster when the building collapsed on April 24, 2013. And while some of the brands that were produced in the collapsed building (including Primark) have committed to paying compensation to the survivors and the bereaved, many including Bennetton have not. Meanwhile, Dunnes have thus far refused to sign the Bangladesh Safety Accord, preferring to continue to put Bangladesh workers at risk.

The Clean Clothes Campaign Ireland, a coalition of organisations dedicated to improving working conditions in the garment industry, will commemorate the anniversary with a public installation in Dublin city centre on April 24th. The installation will be at the top of O’Connell Street (outside Bennetton) from 4pm – 7pm, and a media stunt photo opportunity at 10.30. Join in if you are around the city centre.
